Knowledge Is Not Power…Stupid!

You've heard the saying, "knowledge is power". I'm here to let you know that is a crock of shit (for the most part)!

So what is "knowledge", if it is not power?

Simply, "knowledge" is awareness. In other words, to do what my favorite teacher Mrs. Pride told me not to do, which is, to define the word with the word, it's a state of knowing (Mrs. Pride if you ever read this, I promise you I still know the rules of English).

"Knowing" in and of itself is not power.

Think about it, don't we "know" to eat better? Don't we "know" we should exercise daily? Don't we "know" we should be watching less porn?

If you are like me, the answer to all those questions is a resounding yes! Thus "knowing" is not enough for us to apply what we know.

Beyond that, there is a shit ton of research that suggests, that "knowing" more does not change our minds when it comes to our tribe. What tribe? Pick one! Democrats. Republican. Christians. Joe Rogan Bros. More importantly, YOUR tribe!

I want to propose that it is only applied knowledge that is power. Thus, in many cases, it's not that we need more knowledge and data, but what we actually need is more discipline, maybe even more courage, to critically think about the knowledge we do have and take action on that knowledge.

Good luck and godspeed with applying your newfound knowledge-see what I just did there?
